In 1968 our house was built in a scenic suburb outside of Baltimore, MD. Each house had an oil burning furnace.
During the winter of 2014, on a cold, still night, I noticed an awful burning smell as I was walking. It was the smell from oil burning furnaces thick in the air. At the time, I had recently learned about geothermal heat pumps and energy efficiency. My wife and I did research to learn about the ecological advantages to this technology and we decided to replace our oil furnace and air conditioning compressor with a geothermal heat pump. We replaced 400 gallons plus a year of heating oil with a geothermal heat pump. It is an ecological and economical success!
We had a 275 gallon oil tank and a compressor for our air conditioning unit…
This is what we have now in the basement…
